In the depths of the dark and long winter months it is important to take good care of our mental health and wellbeing. But that can be really tricky and is definitely a skill that needs to be learnt and practised.
This term’s PHSE lessons focus on health and wellbeing, strengthen our understanding of it and learn strategies to make sure we take good care of our mental health.
This term they’ll be learning and having discussions about…
Our students are looking at how we can take accountability for our own mental health and wellbeing by thinking about what we can do to feel well and build resilience.
What strategies can we employ to build healthy routines?
How do our physical and mental health interact?
How aware are we of our own well-being?
What small changes can have a large impact?

Language can make a big difference to someone’s wellbeing!
There are many misconceptions about mental health and wellbeing that start with the language we use.
Our students are challenging their own misconceptions, and thinking about how what they say and do can have an impact on others!
How can we show support?
How can we encourage someone who might be struggling?
What language could be perceived as discriminatory?

Our students spend so much time online and on social media, that it is essential to not forgot that this can have a massive impact on our wellbeing as well.
Our students will consider what impact social media has on their own wellbeing, what they can do to keep themselves safe and how their own actions online could have an impact on others.

Throughout the term our students will build important skills that will support them not only with the tasks we set them but will hopefully help them elsewhere as well!
Resilience
Our students will learn and develop strategies for dealing with setbacks and disappointments. Setbacks can’t be avoided, but how we deal with them can shape our wellbeing!
Independence
We can only teach our students so much! Throughout the term they will have to work independently and take responsibility not just for their own work, but also for their own wellbeing!
Confidence
Not knowing what to do can leave us feeling self-conscious and unsure. Learning about all the different things they can actively do to support themselves and others will build their confidence!
If you want any tips and tricks on how to improve your wellbeing maybe ask some of our students! By the end of this term they’ll be experts!
