English and Maths

At SB Mentoring, we support our young people with their English and Maths. We start by assessing their current level using the IXL platform. This allows us to get to a working age level and create sessions around their missed learning and support their knowledge and understanding in either subject.

We then use a variety of recognised teaching materials to find the best teaching approach for the individual.

Functional Skills

We offer our learners the opportunity to complete Functional Skills using the Pearson Functional Skills schemes of work and past papers. When ready, students are referred back to their educational setting to be submitted for the exam. We can attend on the day of the exam for support.

We also offer the ASDAN English & Math Short Course.

These accredit up to 60 hours of activities:

The challenges can be seen as preparation for coursework, as well as assessment opportunities. They can also underpin the study of pre-release material and preparation for some elements of GCSE English language and literature examinations and in maths offer opportunities to develop an understanding of the main topics in GCSE mathematics and apply the key attributes of functional mathematics: representing, analysing and interpreting.

The flexibility of ASDAN’s Short Courses means they can be carried out in a variety of ways, over a time period to suit our provision. Challenge descriptions can be interpreted and adapted according to the situation and individual need.

Short Courses can be completed using the student book or are available for learners to complete online through the ASDAN e-portfolio system. Learners log in to complete challenges, record skills development and upload evidence. We can view learner progress and sign off work, leaving feedback as needed.
