Weekly Highlights

It’s the first full week back and we hit the ground running!
It’s been a great week of getting to know each other and getting started so here are some of the awesome things students and staff have achieved this week:

Several students started their FoodWise ASDAN course this week, which will teach them a combination of cooking skills, information about diet and nutrition and of course food hygiene!

Others got started on the hair and beauty short course, which will comprise both theoretical and also practical elements over the course of the next few months.

This term’s life skills topic started with a focus on active listening skills, how we can show we are listening attentively and in what situations that may be crucial.

Just because the weather is getting colder, doesn’t mean we’re spending all our time inside! LC braved the freezing wind and beautifully captured the last flowers, changing leaves and grey clouds.

There was hardly a day when there wasn’t any sort of noise coming from down in the DT area, where things were being cut, drilled, hammered and printed.

The arcade cabinet finally got a new screen, which was installed by students this week. It looks better than ever and works great!

As always of course safety comes first so all new students were briefed on how to use machines safely and completed their machine safety induction.

After finishing her training Louiza passed her final Family THRIVE exam, making her a licensed Family THRIVE practitioner.
So watch this space for Family Thrive courses that’ll introduce you to the THRIVE approach and how it can benefit the whole family including activities and strategies to support you and your children.

On Tuesday we had another visit from Downlands School in Devizes.
They visited with four students and tried out a number of things we have to offer such as MicroBit coding, Roblox Studio and using the MakeyMakey invention kit.
The feedback was very positive and they look forward to coming back!

The game of the week was definitely Magnet Chess!
Who would have thought a piece of string and a handful of magnets would be enough to keep all of SB thoroughly entertained for days? Magnets were carefully placed and new shapes for the playing field were created every day.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and get some rest after such an exciting week!
