We hope you have all had a lovely and relaxing break!
It’s the first week back of a brand new term that will bring new skills, projects and knowledge… and hopefully lots and lots of sunshine.
Here are some things that are new, some things to look forward to, and some things our students have already achieved this first week back:
New Kitchen & Common Area
With our slowly growing student and staff numbers and many students embracing cooking and baking as part of their time here, it was about time we got a bigger kitchen!
Our new bistro area offers more space to create delicious food and enough tables to eat together and socialise, while still providing breakout spaces for students that prefer a quieter lunch.
The art area has moved upstairs, where more natural light will make the students’ creations look even better!
The Term Ahead
This term we are starting the ASDAN PHSE short course with our students. The curriculum based around module 1 will focus on emotional wellbeing, ways to talk about it and how to help themselves and others maintain positive emotional wellbeing.

DT this term will focus on a few different projects including making a Dance Mat game, planning and redoing the garden at the Marden Court care home. We can’t wait to see all the awesome things our students will create!

The students doing art will be looking at pop-art. They will learn about pop-art icons like Andy Warhol and create their own pieces in the vibrant and unique style!

Down in the ICT room it’s all about animation! The students will be using ToonBoom to create their own animations and learning how to use the software.

Other than that we will of course continue to support our students with their individual learning goals to the best of our ability including, but not limited to, Maths, English, Physics, Cooking and Coding!
Weekly Highlights
While it’s only been a short week, our students have still already achieved some awesome things this week!
Back one day and there’s already noise coming from the DT area! Students continued fixing and upgrading a jukebox with some fresh lights and started building the base for a dance mat!
DC and AF will continue their climbing course this term and were already halfway up the wall on their first day back!

Some students tackled a LEGO challenge together, using their communication skills to build the set with split roles.

On Friday EH enjoyed the nice mild weather and went out to find some wild garlic. After successfully finding and identifying it he brought some back to SB so hopefully next week, there will be some wild garlic pesto and butter for everyone to try!
In less than a month the Calne duck race is coming up! Just like last year we’ve started collecting the students’ designs and will be voting on a favourite that will represent us at the race. Watch this space for our progress!
It’s gonna be an exciting term, albeit a very short one!
