Careers Support at SB

Here at SB it is very important to us to make sure we set up our learners in the best way possible for whatever comes next.
Each one of our students follows an individual path towards educational and occupational goals that will lead them in the direction they want to take.

Figuring out what that path looks like is tricky, but we’re here to help!

Depending on the age and aspirations of our learners we can offer tailored support to make sure they can make informed decisions about their future.
Here are just some of the ways we have been doing that:

National Apprenticeship Week

In early February we celebrated National Apprenticeship Week! Have a look at the parents’ toolkit full of useful information:

Careers Fair

Making use of offers in the area some of our students took the train to Bath for a careers and apprenticeship fair! Getting out there and being able to hear directly from employers was a great opportunity to hear about the working world!

Springpod

Gaining insight into what a job might be like is both really important but also really difficult, because not every job may be accessible close-by or offer work experience.

Our students have been trying out Springpod, a platform that offers detailed insight into a wide variety of careers and daily tasks through virtual experience programmes.

For their participation students can gain credits and earn certificates to add valuable experience to their CV!

Post-16

As part of tailored Post-16 sessions some of our older students have been able to explore college, apprenticeship and university options to gain a better understanding of what their options and respective requirements are. They have also practised essential skills like CV writing, how to fill in applications and practice interviews!

But this isn’t all. Some other ways we have been able to support our students with their future planning include:

  • college visits
  • travel practice
  • visiting local businesses
  • applications
  • signing up for open days
  • outreach

… and we hope to find many more ways to support our students as best as we can!

In May (5th-8th) we are hoping to run a careers week with local businesses attending provision, and our students visiting businesses in the community.
If you think your business can support our students, please get in touch!
