Last Term at SB

During a very sunny Term 6 our students finished the year on a high! Have a look at what they were up to:

Paper Rollercoaster

This term multiple students collaborated on a STEM project to make a paper roller-coaster. The twist? None of them ever actually worked on it together. In separate sessions each student saw what work had been done by the others, adapted, continued and expanded. Over multiple weeks they built, improved, left tasks to do for the next person, appreciated each others’ work and did a great job accepting and adapting to changes.

And the final result shows that!

Exams

As many of you know, students can take Functional Skills Maths and English exams right here on site! This term many students completed their Functional Skills journey with Entry Level 3, Level 1 or Level 2 exams.
This has been a massive step and we’re so proud of them!

Cooking

This term was not only fun, it was also delicious! Students practised a variety of skills including researching recipes, knife skills, using different cooking methods and proper food hygiene. They did so using a number of recipes from other countries in line with our World Cup theme!
It’s been wonderful seeing them not only embrace different cooking skills, but also be proud of their cooking and sharing the results!

World Cup Theme

While not everyone is invested in football, the World Cup has provided a great opportunity to make our curriculum multicultural across multiple subjects! During Minecraft-building IT sessions, students each researched and represented a country in stunning building projects. PSHE focused on aspects of different cultures with great discussions about a variety of topics. Cooking took our students (and our noses!) on a culinary trip around the world. And during art lessons students created a variety of themed masks!

Bottle Rockets

Blowing things up in a field sounds great on its own, so being able to do so safely, controlled and while learning something has been absolutely awesome this term!

Students designed, 3D printed and of course tested an intricate water bottle rocket launching system! Everyone had great fun and the final iterations of the launcher really sent those bottles flying!

And with that the school year is already over! We hope you have enjoyed this year as much as we have and have an awesome summer!
